Outcomes

The Cloud Path was conceived to showcase the potential of drones and their role in future urban landscapes. By employing a fleet of drones that dynamically form a bridge, the Cloud Path is a slightly impractical demonstration of how technology to solve practical problems, such as urban connectivity, while also serving as a platform for science education and public engagement. The bridge at the Zhong’an Chuanggu Technology Park not only connects two parts of the center but also acts as a destination for learning and discovery, inviting visitors to explore the possibilities of technology.

Competition Entry: A Bridge connecting two parts of a technology research center in Hefei, China.

​The cloud path is a focal point of the Zhong’an Chuanggu Technology Park, and is a destination for the public, showing the potential of science and technology. People come to walk the drone bridge and learn how it works. They stay to learn about the companies in the park.

Each drone hovers in place and knows the positions of the bridge users and other drones. The drones move as a group to always provide a floor for the users. The drones are stored in hives at each end when not in use, and fly out to make the bridge when users are detected. The bridge does not require a structure and can be moved and updated as drone technology improves. Ascend into the clouds and learn about the wonders of technology.
