Outcomes

The Skylights Museum seeks to immerse visitors in the beauty and culture of Norway, enhancing their understanding and appreciation of Norwegian heritage by integrating the center within Oslo’s urban fabric, connecting to the waterfront trail, and utilizing natural lighting to create atmospheric spaces that reflect Norwegian skies. This results in a cultural hub that serves as both an architectural landmark and a gateway to Norway, offering dynamic spaces for cultural exhibitions and public gatherings.

Skylights Museum

Form Concept

Experience the atmospheres of Norway from its fleeting winter dawns to its endless summer evenings.

Skylights cultural center introduces the beauty and culture of Norway, ideally located at a major cruise and highway entry point to Oslo.

Skylights is a hub connecting and enhancing the popular waterfront trail.

The waterfront trail continues as a single path through the cultural center.

Visitors experience the skies above Norway through exploring the atmospheric light filled spaces.

Each roof sail reflects daylight off of a colored ceiling and floods the floor with atmospheric light.

Varied height walls create larger spaces of multiple sails.

Curved sail roofs flow over the spaces, fitting with the surrounding industrial waterfront sawtooth roof structures while opening up to visitors from the ferry terminal and waterfront trail.

Visitors leave the center in love with Norway and explore the country.
